What is Chiropractic?

Pain and mental health go hand in hand. If you're in pain, your mental health is probably suffering, and vice versa. Chiropractic is beautiful mixture of approaches to help people live happier and more fulfilled lives pain-free. Chiropractic is an evidence-based branch of medicine that focuses primarily on the spine, although all parts of the body are considered.

It is a hands-on bodywork type of practice that provides pain relief and improves range of motion. Chiropractors go through a full 4 year doctorate program, get certified and licensed through the National Chiropractic Board and State Board, and are required to meet a minimum amount of hands-on hours. Chiropractors are primary care practitioners, so you do not need a referral to see them. Chiropractors are trained in diagnosis, treatment, diagnostic imaging (focus on x-ray), nutrition, lifestyle advice, rehab, and overall health.

What happens in an appointment?

During your first visit, you will be taken through a history, exam, review of findings, determination of appropriate treatment length, and treatment itself (provided it's okay to do so). We will work together to come up with a treatment plan, based on your goals.

During a regular visit, you'll go through a mini history, and Dr. Laura will provide the appropriate treatment depending on what your condition is. Typically, it includes soft tissue and body work, an adjustment, and take home stretches and exercises. Adjustments are a hands-on approach in applying a quick force into a designated joint, to relieve pain and increase mobility. If something is outside of her scope, she will refer you to the most appropriate provider.
